The Iditarod is not simply the longest sled dog race in the world. It is an "EVENT" like none other. It takes thousands of volunteers (veterinarians, pilots, checkers, handlers and more) to make this race happen, and most don't really care who wins the race. They simply want to be a part of this romantic experience, be in the outdoors and help get the dog teams get to Nome.
